Google New Look

See The New Google Homepage

The company rolled out a new look for Google.com today, with some subtle changes and others more immediately obvious.

The first thing you'll notice is that there's now a black bar along the top forming the background of the options menu.
The Google logo itself has also been shrunken slightly, and the that used to appear just below the search buttons have now been moved to the bottom of the page.
In a blog post, Chris Wiggins, Google's Creative Director, says the changes were inspired by principles of focus, elasticity and effortlessness. Expect similar design changes across Google products in the near future.

Bangalore City Police ORders To Stop Google Street View

(Reuters) - Google Inc has been ordered by city police to suspend its "Street View" service in Bangalore, the company said on Tuesday, in the latest setback to its global mapping project that has been hit by privacy fears.

The technology giant has sent a fleet of cars around the globe to capture millions of images used with maps as part of its panoramic Street View service, but faces regulatory challenges from authorities across the world on data protection concerns.

"We received a letter from the commissioner of police regarding Street View. We are currently reviewing it and have stopped our cars until we have a chance to answer any questions or concerns the police have," Google said in a statement.

The commissioner of police declined to elaborate on the reasons for the letter when contacted by Reuters.
Bangalore is the leading IT hub in Asia's third-largest economy, where Google employs thousands nationwide and where global technology giants such as Microsoft, Yahoo and Intel also have offices.

Google began collecting images three weeks ago in Bangalore, the first Indian city targeted by Street View.
The company aims to cover all of India with the mapping service, a spokesperson told Reuters.

Regulators across Europe, Canada and Singapore have conducted investigations into the legality of Street View, after Google admitted to U.S. authorities that the vehicles used to take the photographs for the service had also collected personal information such as emails and passwords from unsecured WiFi networks.
France's data protection regulator fined the firm 100,000 euros ($143,650) in March for collecting information from unsecured WiFi networks, while the Czech Republic rejected Google's application to photograph there last September.

HTC unveils ‘Flyer’ in India at Rs. 39,890

Taiwanese handset maker HTC has entered the “tablet” war in India with the launch of its “Flyer” in the country, priced at Rs. 39,890.A tablet PC, though smaller in size, has PC-like functionalities.
“We saw an opportunity to create a tablet experience that is different, more personal and productive and are extremely excited to introduce the HTC Flyer in the Indian market,” HTC India country manager Faisal Siddiqui said in a statement.
Flyer’s competitors in India include the Apple iPad, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, Blackberry Playbook and the soon-to-be launched Motorola Xoom and Huawei’s MediaPad.
The seven-inch touch screen tablet has a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It has 1GB of RAM and an in-built memory of 16GB and a 5-megapixel camera.
The device also has features like HTC Sense, HTC Scribe and HTC Watch, which provide a better visual, touch and movie-viewing experience to users.
Blackberry launched its Playbook last week priced at Rs. 27,990 (16 GB), Rs. 32,990 (32 GB) and Rs. 37,990 (64 GB). The Apple iPad (priced at about Rs. 29,500) and Samung Galaxy Tab (about Rs. 26,000) are already available here.
Since the launch of Apple’s iPad, the tablet market is witnessing huge competition, with new contenders launching their devices. Apple’s rival in the computing space, Dell had launched the “Streak” in India last year, while homegrown telecom handset makers like Spice and Olive have also launched similar devices at much lower price points.

According to analysts, sales in the tablet PC segment in India are expected to touch one million units over the next 12 months. 3G (high-speed internet services) roll out has also helped in expanding the opportunity, they said.
